‘Buy only from MATTA agents’

KUALA LUMPUR: Visitors to the Malaysian Association of Travel and Tours (MATTA) Fair this weekend have been cautioned not to fall for offers by tour operators operating outside the designated halls at the fair’s venue.

MATTA Fair September 2012 organising chairman Jeffri Sulaiman reminded visitors to get their packages from agencies participating in the fair. “We can guarantee the quality of their products and services but not for those which are not participating agencies.

“We have had cases where customers tried to redeem prizes for packages bought from companies which were not part of the fair. Unfortunately, they were not able to do so at our counter,” Jeffri said here yesterday.

Deputy organising chairman Boris Chang said the committee was aware of opportunistic tour operators involved in such practices but were unable to act against them as many were not MATTA members. Jeffri said visitors could expect more exotic destinations to be promoted by their respective national tourism boards, including Iran and Ecuador.

Hong Leong Bank is continuing its support to the MATTA Fair with its Hong Leong MATTA credit card which is offering more rewards for cardholders. Hong Leong Bank general manager for unsecured lending Genista Tan said among the new benefits of the card were overseas medical expenses and protection against loss of personal money and snatch theft.

She added that visitors who applied for the card during the three-day fair would receive a free portable refrigerator. They will also have their first year’s annual fee waived and receive a RM50 cash rebate. This is in addition to existing benefits for cardholders at the fair – VIP treatment at the lounge and a lucky draw for those who spend RM500 and above.

Free trolley bags will also be given to customers who spend RM5,000 and above using their cards, or they can make on-the-spot redemptions at the Hong Leong booth or convert their fair purchases to 0% interest instalments of up to 12 month.

The MATTA Fair will be open to the public from Friday to Sunday, from 10am to 9pm.
