Johor, 15 September 2012 – LEGOLAND® Malaysia opened its gates today to thousands of excited children and their families. The first international theme park in Malaysia has more than 40 rides, shows and attractions spread over 76 acres. Eager guests enjoyed a special performance by a marching brass band, flown in from the home of the original LEGOLAND Park in Denmark. Greeted by confetti and costume characters, guests entered the turnstiles for the first time.
LEGOLAND® Malaysia, the sixth LEGOLAND Park in the world, is an interactive and educational experience created for families with children between the ages of 2 and 12. For the LEGO® fan, the Park will be the ultimate LEGO “clubhouse.” Future plans are already in place for LEGOLAND Malaysia to be the largest family destination resort in Southeast Asia. A Water Park and Hotel are already under construction for opening in 2013 and 2014.
Strategically located at the heart of the rapidly developing Iskandar region, the Park is accessible to both local and international visitors. The excellent transportation network enables visitors from Singapore to arrive within 10 minutes from the Tuas Second Link by road and 45 minutes from Changi Airport. Similarly, the North-South Expressway provides easy access for local travellers.
John Jakobsen, Managing Director of LEGOLAND® Parks for Merlin Entertainments, said: “After several years of planning, nothing could be more gratifying than the smiles of thousands of children - and their parents - enjoying LEGOLAND Malaysia together for the first time. LEGOLAND Parks are all about giving our guests something different - a full day of fun, where everything is hands-on and the families create their own adventures.”
General Manager of LEGOLAND® Malaysia, Siegfried Boerst, also got into the LEGOLAND spirit of adventure. He greeted the first guests from a LEGO® fire engine as dancers and mascots entertained the crowd.
Mr Boerst said: “It is a great day for children, parents and everyone who has ever enjoyed playing with LEGO®. From the youngest child to those - like me - who are still young at heart. LEGOLAND® Malaysia is the first in Asia. Today’s opening brings our unique, family focused experience within reach of millions across the continent. We look forward to welcoming everyone to the ultimate LEGO experience.”
The rides and attractions at LEGOLAND® Malaysia range from roller coasters to water rides with a LEGO® theme throughout. The Park offers a unique and hands-on experience where children can take control. The Driving School, for example, offers children the chance to drive a car and earn their very own LEGOLAND driver’s licence. In Miniland, children become giants among Asia’s best known cities, countries and landmarks, entirely made out of LEGO bricks on a scale of 1:20. At the same time, LEGO fans of all ages can find out if their creations could really work at the Build and Test Centre. At LEGO Studios, a 4D
movie adventure uses wind, smoke and water to take 3D into the next dimension.
LEGOLAND® Malaysia family theme park is owned by Themed Attractions and Resorts Sdn. Bhd. (TAR), Iskandar Investment Berhad (IIB) and Merlin Entertainments Group and is operated by Merlin Entertainments.
