Witness the great bird migration at Raptor Watch

PETALING JAYA: Witness the sight of thousands of raptors flying over Malaysia back to their breeding grounds in the north as Raptor Watch (RW) 2012 begins today.

Jointly-organised by the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) as well as the Malacca and Negri Sembilan state governments, RW 2012 is an opportunity for the public to enjoy the annual phenomenon, giving nature lovers a great view of the majestic birds in flight. The raptors’ 12,000km migration will see them flying over Tanjung Tuan Forest Reserve back to their home countries in Siberia, China, Mongolia, South Korea, Japan and Indochina. MNS communications head Andrew Sebas tian said in Malaysia, the greatest threat facing raptors was habitat loss due to development.

RW 2012 will take place today and tomorrow on the grounds of PNB Ilham Resort at Tanjung Tuan, Port Dickson. Registration and entrance is free and activities include the Raptor Hunt 2012 around Port Dickson and Malacca.
