200 Malaysia-branded cabs stand out at Berlin travel fair

KUALA LUMPUR: A campaign involving 200 taxis wrapped and branded with Malaysian images was launched at the world's biggest travel trade exhibition, the International Tourism Bourse (ITB), in Berlin.

The eye-catching images, showing sunny beach paradise and orang utans in a stunning jungle setting with the rafflesia - the largest flower in the world - gave Malaysia an opportunity to stand out from the more than 188 countries participating in the exhibition. Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen led a delegation of 57 organisations to the taxi campaign that was launched Thursday morning in front of the Brandenburg Gate.

A statement issued by Tourism Malaysia Friday said ITB, which runs until Sunday, was an ideal platform to showcase Malaysia to the public as well as to the travel trade. Visitors to the German capital will get a feeling of Malaysian's tourism industry for a month from the exciting branding campaign.

Malaysia received 24.7 million visitors in 2011 and Germany is an important source market for Malaysia, with 124,670 visitors in 2011. For this year, a number of strategic marketing campaigns are set to further establish Malaysia as a destination for German tourists. Topics like nature, eco-tourism, cultural and sustainable tourism are highlights of Malaysian tourism.
