Tourism Malaysia deputy chairman Datuk Maznah Mazlan said the public could enjoy the long year-end holiday with attractive bargains, big discounts and great choices of promotional and recreational activities.
She said the public would enjoy all these for about two months, beginning Nov 15 until Jan 4, next year at selected shopping outlets nationwide. She said this in her speech to officiate 1MYES 2014 at the National Visual Arts Gallery here today.
A total of 277 participants, comprising international media and travel agents from 26 countries, including Australia, Brunei, India and China, also attended the event. The 1MYES 2014 has helped boost tourist expenditure in the country and bring numerous benefits to local retailers, as Visit Malaysia Year 2014 comes to a close.
Meanwhile, Maznah believed multi-racial Malaysia will be tuned to high celebrative mode next year to achieve the Malaysia Year of Festivals (MyFEST) 2015's target. She noted more than 50 events were identified for MyFEST 2015 to achieve its target of 29.4 million tourist arrivals and RM89 billion in tourist receipts for 2015.
In 2013, tourist expenditure on shopping registered RM19.8 billion out of total receipts of RM65.4 billion, indicating that shopping holds the second biggest share of tourist expenditure, making it a lucrative sector of the nation's tourism industry.
