Visit Kedah Year 2016 Logo Design Competition Starts Tomorrow

ALOR SETAR, Oct 31 (Bernama) -- In conjunction with Visit Kedah Year 2016 the Kedah government will organize a logo design competition as an initial step to promote Kedah to local and foreign tourists.

The competition, opened to all Malaysians, will run for a month starting tomorrow. State Religious, Indian and Siamese Community Affairs, Manpower and Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Rawi Abdul Hamid said the objective of the logo design competition was to prepare to usher Visit Kedah Year 2016.

"This is part of our preparation for Visit Kedah Year 2016 and as we run the competition we are gearing up promotional activities for next year. I therefore urge Malaysians to help us in realising our aim to make Visit Kedah Year 2016, a success," he told reporters here today.

Mohd Rawi said the competition was an opportunity for anyone to show their creative talent in designing a logo which may be used as an icon to promote Kedah to tourists. "There is no limit in the number of entries and selected entries will be proposed in the executive council meeting to determine the logo to be chosen as an icon to promote Kedah locally and internationally.

"Once the logo is chosen, we will begin to intensify efforts to promote Kedah next year. In addition, we will also seek cooperation from other states in promoting Kedah," he said.

Entry forms are available at the State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN) Kedah. The main winner stands to win a cash prize of RM3,000 and a three-day two-night stay in Langkawi and 10 consolation prizes of RM100 will also be given away.

"With the tourists coming, we hope that investors will take opportunity to increase the number of hotel rooms in Kedah as rooms are still not sufficient. In Alor Setar, there are only over 2,000 rooms, while in Langkawi 8,000 rooms are available and the number will not be able to accommodate the expected number of tourists," he said. He said several historic and tourist sites will be spruced up to make them look more attractive and interesting to tourists.
