The Axiata Cup badminton tournament, sponsored by Axiata Group, was held with immense success over the last two years and is among the most prestigious team events in the world today. Last year, over 240 million viewers from around the world watched the event. This year marks the third edition of the tournament which promises to be the best one yet.
Featuring an array of the leading players in the world, the Axiata Cup is sanctioned by the Badminton Asia Confederation (BAC) and the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and organised by Total Sports Asia (TSA).
The award-winning Axiata Cup is among the richest team badminton events in the world with a total purse of USD 1 million.
Eight teams - Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines along with two other All-Star teams from Europe and Asia - will participate this year.
This year, the Axiata Cup will be using 4-match format. There will be 2 singles (men's and women's and 2 doubles (men's and mixed) matches per tie. Each team will comprise 13 players and coaches are free to replace the shuttlers from day to day.
The Preliminary Round will take place in Jakarta from Nov 27 to Dec 3. The semi finals and finals will be in Kuala Lumpur on Dec 6 and Dec 7 respectively.
