KUALA
LUMPUR: Tourism Selangor took a positive step towards realising its target of
getting 5.6 million tourists to the state this year by taking part in the Asean
Tourism Forum (ATF) in Laos recently.
The forum, from Jan 22 to 26, was attended by key global tourism industry players and aimed to enhance tourist inflow to Asean countries.
Tourism Selangor utilised this opportunity to showcase its iconic tourism products, such as the Gombak Hulu Langat Geopark, Jungle School Gombak, Quartz Ridge Gombak, Splash Mania, Discovery Park, Paya Indah Wetlands, Sky Mirror, and FunPark, focusing on ecotourism and theme park attractions.
These were presented to over 400 hosted buyers and international sellers.
During the ATF, three tourism products in Selangor were honoured with the prestigious Asean Tourism Standard (2024-2026). The Wyndham Acmar Klang and Sunway Resort Hotel received the Asean Mice (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) Venue Standard in the Meeting Room category, while Setia City Convention Centre (SCCC) was recognised in the Exhibition Venue category.
As part of its strategic approach, Tourism Selangor in a statement said it aims to attract the interest of specific countries for targeted tourism experiences, such as Indonesia for medical tourism, Brunei for shopping attractions, and Singapore for gastronomy and ecotourism.
"Asean countries have played a pivotal role in Selangor's tourism sector, with 351,079 tourists visiting in 2022 and 241,875 tourists in Quarter 1 and Quarter 2 of 2023 from countries including Indonesia, Brunei, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodia.
"Tourism Selangor has also facilitated impactful business-to-business (B2B) sessions in collaboration with the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) and Asean Tourism Association (Aseanta) during the ATF in Laos," it said in a statement.
These sessions involved tourism key players from Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines, paving the way for cross-promotional initiatives and collaborations throughout 2024.
Looking ahead, Tourism Selangor said it anticipates a series of cross-promotional events and collaborations, with the aim of reaching its target of attracting over seven million tourists by Visit Selangor Year in 2025.
"The ongoing international campaign, 'Splendid Selangor, Take Me Anywhere!', underscores the state's commitment to fostering bilateral relations with you interested nations and showcasing its diverse attractions, spanning ecotourism, theme parks, cultural and heritage, as well as splendid shopping and leisure experiences" it said.

VIENTIANE, 26 Jan 2024 – Malaysia will officially become
the next host for the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2025 after a handing-over session
here at Landmark Hotel, Vientiane, Laos in conjunction with ASEAN TOURISM FORUM
2024.
The handing-over serves as another milestone for Malaysia,
marking its return to hosting ATF since the last event in 2014 in Kuching,
Sarawak.
“We warmly welcome all of you
to our country as we foresee this as an important and timely event for
Malaysia, especially as we gear up for the upcoming Visit Malaysia Year set to
take place in 2026. It is our hope that Malaysia will be your next destination
to explore as we have a bit of everything for everyone, said Dato Sri Tiong
King Sing.
“Malaysian
Government, especially MOTAC together with the State Government is working to
strengthen our tourism industry by improving tourism destinations
infrastructure, increasing direct flights to Malaysia, implementing Visa On
Arrival and to strengthen Muslim- friendly tourism,” he added.
Malaysia
is honoured once again to host ATF 2025 and it is even more significant as
Malaysia will also become the chairman of ASEAN in the same year.
Known
for its rich culture and biodiversity, Malaysia has plenty to offer its
visitors from all walks of life, from its friendly people and intertwined
traditions, unique culinary delights, to its breathtaking natural ecosystem.
MOUNT Kinabalu, located on the island of Borneo, is a tribute
to the grandeur of nature as well as its cultural significance. This granite
monster, which rises 4,095 metres above sea level, is more than just a
geological wonder; it also represents Malaysia's natural beauty and the
religious beliefs of the local inhabitants.
Mount Kinabalu's granite peaks tell the geological record of
millions of years of tectonic action and volcanic activities. The end result is
a breathtaking scene that attracts climbers, scientists, and nature lovers
alike.
Mount Kinabalu is more than just a mountain to the
Kadazan-Dusun people of Sabah; it is a holy location where their ancestors'
spirits are said to rest. The mountain serves as a focal point for rituals and
cultural customs, exemplifying the harmonious interplay between nature and
human values.
Kinabalu Park, a Unesco World Heritage Site recognised for its
exceptional biodiversity, encircles Mount Kinabalu. The park is home to many
plant and animal species, some of which are unique to Earth, and spans a range
of environments, from alpine meadows to tropical jungles.
The allure of Mount Kinabalu extends beyond its geological and
cultural significance; it's also a haven for adventure seekers. Climbing the
mountain is a challenging yet rewarding experience,
with two main routes leading to the summit: the Summit Trail and the Mesilau
Trail.
Climbers navigate through changing landscapes, from dense
forests to the barren granite slopes, culminating in a breathtaking sunrise
from Low's Peak, the highest point.
At an elevation of roughly 3,270 metres, Laban Rata is an
important resting station for climbers. Climbers prepare for the final journey
to the summit here, surrounded by the mountain's magnificence, frequently
staying overnight to adjust to the altitude.
The slopes of Mount Kinabalu are home to a staggering variety
of flora and fauna. Vibrant hues are painted on the landscape by unusual
pitcher plants, orchids, and the Rafflesia, the largest flower in the world.
The mountain serves as a refuge for a variety of bird species, butterflies, and
mammals, resulting in a biological mosaic that draws in those who love the
outdoors.
With temperatures drastically decreasing at higher altitudes,
Mount Kinabalu's climate can be erratic. Climbers are urged to pack
appropriately for the trip and to be ready for a variety of weather scenarios,
including rain. If you need tips on how to prepare to climb Mount
Kinabalu, this guide can help get you started.
The delicate ecosystems of Mount Kinabalu are in need of
conservation initiatives as interest in the mountain grows. To guarantee that
the mountain's natural beauty is preserved for future generations, visitors are
urged to engage in responsible tourism, which includes respecting the
environment and local people.
Finally, Mount Kinabalu is more than just a mountain; it
exemplifies the complex relationships between nature and culture. Whether
you're looking for adventure, cultural immersion, or a glimpse into the wonders
of biodiversity, Mount Kinabalu is a location that goes beyond physical and
spiritual bounds. Embark on a trek to Borneo's apex and discover the majesty of
Mount Kinabalu.

Md. Nor (kiri) menyampaikan plak penghargaan kepada salah satu rakan strategik

MOHAMED
Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Kebudayaan, Kesenian
dan Warisan negeri, Datuk Kamaruddin Md. Nor berkata, langkah itu boleh
dilaksanakan susulan Lapangan Terbang Sultan Ismail Petra (LTSIP) mampu
menerima pendaratan pesawat besar seperti Boeing 737 dan Airbus 320.
“Malah
terminal baharu LTSIP mampu menampung ketibaan lebih ramai pelancong. Kita

KANGAR: Kepelbagaian kedai makan
tarikan sekali gus turut membantu merancakkan kehadiran pengunjung bersempena
Tahun Melawat Perlis (TMPs) 2024-2025.
Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Pelancongan
kehadiran pelancong.
Katanya, kebanyakan kedai ini juga
turut menampilkan makanan beridentitikan Perlis sekali gus menjadi daya
penarik.
Ujarnya, kombinasi makanan
Mengulas lanjut, Wan Badariah
limpahan ekonomi menerusi kehadiran pengunjung luar.
“Penggunaan media sosial secara
meluas juga banyak membantu kedai-kedai makan di negeri ini menjadi ‘sasaran’

membantu dalam mempromosikan negeri ini bagi menarik lebih ramai pengunjung
luar.

dengan kunjungan mereka ketika berada di premis makanan tersebut, sudah tentu
ia akan menjadi ‘buah mulut’ sekali gus membantu merancakkan kemasukan
pelancong ke negeri ini,” katanya.

KLANG: Transport Minister Anthony Loke said Port Klang's designation as an international cruise homeport for the Costa Serena cruise ship will boost the country's tourism sector.
He said the collaborative effort between Costa Cruise Lines and Hwajing Travel and Tours could bring enduring economic benefits and lasting advantages for the country.
"With Port Klang as the new hub, it unlocks more opportunities for tourists to explore Malaysia's diverse culture, unique architecture and delicious cuisines, be it through excursions to the Royal City of Klang, the vibrant temples of Batu Caves or the street food of Kuala Lumpur."
He said Costa Cruise Lines' recognition of Malaysia as a potential market, coupled with Hwajing's expertise as a stalwart in Southeast Asian cruise tourism, underscores the common vision of the collaboration to tap into the country's halal market.
"This is to make it easier for Muslim travellers to dine in on the cruise without any worries as they will have options for halal restaurants.
"Most international cruises do not have halal restaurants, so it is difficult for them," he said.
"As the transport minister, I extend the government's unwavering support for such ventures, which perfectly aligns with our aspiration for the Madani Economy and Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
He added that the establishment of Costa Serena as Malaysia's first international cruise homeport is a game-changer, elevating Malaysia to a premier international cruise destination.
"This positions Malaysia as a regional leader in job creation within the cruise industry and is also a shot in the arm for supporting sectors such as accommodation, dining, transportation, and retail.
"Port Klang's designation as an international cruise homeport opens doors for collaborative ventures with other regional ports, laying the foundation for a network of intersecting cruise itineraries."
As such, Loke added that he will attend the World Cruise Conference in Miami, Florida, this year to attract more cruise ship companies to make Malaysia their homeport.
Loke attended the inauguration of Costa Serena's first international cruise homeport earlier. Costa Serena is a ship from the renowned European cruise brand Costa Cruises.
Also present were Tourism Malaysia deputy chairman Datuk Yeoh Soon Hin, Port Klang Authority chairman Ean Yong Hian Wah, Hwajing Travel and Tours managing director Kenny Cheong, Costa Cruises director of Region and Growth Markets Francesco Raffa and the ship's captain, Giambattista Mancini.
