KUALA LUMPUR: From the success of the 2004 epic film Puteri Gunung Ledang and its 2006 musical adaptation Puteri Gunung Ledang the Musical, comes the anticipated concert version based on the stage musical. Puteri Gunung Ledang in Concert -- Rebirth of The Legend will be staged from March 20 to March 24 at Istana Budaya. It will feature spectacular new choreography, new music arrangements, stunning new sets and props LED visuals and all-new costumes.

Enfiniti producer Puan Seri Tiara Jacquelina reprises her role as Gusti Putri in the concert version. Creative director Adlin Aman Ramlie also returns as Sultan Melaka in the “refreshed, reconstructed, reimagined” show, with other cast include Stephen Rahman-Hughes (Hang Tuah), Ida Mariana (Bayan) and AC Mizal (Gusti Adipati/Raja Majapahit).

It also features Roslan Aziz as music director, Pat Ibrahim (choreographer) and Raja Malek (production designer).

“I don't know what it is about PGL that fans keep asking for the show to come back every single year. So, to mark the 10th anniversary of the PGL brand since its film premiere in 2004 at the Venice Film Festival, I decided to bring PGL back,” Tiara says at a Press conference at Istana Budaya here today.

This concert by Enfiniti Vision Media is also dubbed as “a reunion of the original dream team” comprising the cast and crew who helped contribute to the show’s success. PGL the Musical has been staged three times (twice in 2006 and another in 2009) and toured Singapore in 2006.

“We will celebrate the movie and musical with a mega concert, the biggest concert ever at Istana Budaya. The creative direction is to refresh, reconstruct and refresh a well-loved legend and brand, and make it relevant to today's audience,” she adds.

The PGL universe began with the highly successful Puteri Gunung Ledang movie, which won awards at the Malaysian Film Festival (2004) including Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Actress and Best Producer.

Its musical version swept eight major awards at the 2006 Boh Cameronian Arts Awards, and ultimately changed the landscape for the local performing arts and set new records for box-office sales.

“We will dedicate a segment of the show to pay tribute to original iconic scenes from the musical for the fans to re-live the moments. I believe fans will be singing along to their favourite songs such as like Keranamu Kekasih, DiPuncak Tertinggi, Katakan Hadirmu Kerana Cinta and Asmaradana,” Tiara adds.
