State tourism, trade and consumerism committee chairman Datuk Tee Siew Kiong said the participants were from 50 countries, including newcomers from Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Sri Lanka.
"The festival which is listed in Malaysia's tourism calendar in conjunction with Malaysia Year of Festivals 2015 (MyFest 2015) will be joined by 169 local participants, 300 school students as well as corporate bodies," he said at the pre-launch ceremony for the festival here today. Also present were Pasir Gudang Municipal Council president Md Za'nal Misran and Malaysian Kite Council president A. Rahim Nin.
Tee said the festival which was organised by the state government through the Pasir Gudang Municipal Council, with cooperation from the Johor Tourism Department, Johor Kite Association and Malaysian Kite Council was also expected to make the Malaysia Book of Records with participation from the most number of foreign countries.
He said the festival, themed 'Flying for Harmony' was expected to be witnessed by 200,000 visitors.
