SEPANG, Feb 18 (Bernama) -- JP Moto Racing Malaysia rider Zaqhwan Zaidi, winner of three races in the local racing circuit, is capable of leading the local challenge when he competes in the Moto2 category of the World Motorcycle Grand Prix, this season.

The 19-year-old rider who tested his motorcycle that would serve him throughout this season, at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC), here said since it was his rookie season, he would not set any lofty target.

Zaqhwan said if he could compete against the best riders in the world, it would be a positive achievement.

"After being a second choice (reserve) rider in the past two editions, I will be competing as a full fledged rider this season and that certainly will be a challenge but a big break in my career.

"To race full time on the world stage is not something that can become a reality for many aspiring riders. Therefore, I want to make full use of the opportunity provided. I believe the Suter machine is the best for me. My team members will focus and giving me the best support," he told Bernama.

Apart from Zaqhwan, two other local riders will also be competing in the Moto2 this season, namely Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah (Petronas Raceline) and Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia).

Last year Zaqhwan won the Malaysian Super Series 1000cc category, 600cc category overall title in the Supersports Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) and also lifted the Malaysian Cub Prix CP130 category.

"Our training today was focused on getting used to the machine and the track. We have yet to start focusing on the timing," he said.
