Travel fair promises hard-to-miss bargains

KUALA LUMPUR: Low prices for travel packages, as well as contests and lucky draws offering flight tickets and holiday packages, are the attractions for the 11th Malaysia International Travel Mart (MITM), which starts today.
This year's travel fair at the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre until Sunday is expected to draw at least 70,000 visitors and bring in sales amounting to RM35mil. It will be participated by various travel agencies, national tourism boards and transport operators, including airlines and cruise companies.
Organising chairman Jackson Thian said domestic and regional holiday packages would be the highlight of this year's fair. He said participating airlines such as Firefly and MAS would be offering hard-to-miss promotions priced as low as RM96 for a one-way trip to Kota Baru and RM488 for a return flight to Haadyai.
MAS will also be offering vacation packages in local and South-East Asian destinations, including accommodation and arranged tours for as low as RM225 to Ipoh and RM1,850 to Kathmandu, Nepal.
“MITM is usually held at this time of year so that people can plan their trips for the year-end or for next year,” he said at a press conference to announce the travel mart. He encouraged the public to plan their holidays in advance as it would save them a lot of money and ensure smoother travelling.
