SHAH ALAM: Waterworld will be making a big splash in i-City early next month. The RM25 million water theme park is set to be another major attraction in i-City in Section 7, here.

It is the only theme park in the Asean region to feature the Tornado Ride-- a zero-gravity journey on a tube raft down a 48.8m water tunnel connected to a seven storey-high-funnel. One enters the funnel through an opening that is 18.3m in diameter and leaves through a much narrower exit at the bottom. The ride ends in a landing pool. All of this takes only 28 seconds.

I-Bhd director Monica Ong said the 4ha water theme park would be able to accommodate up to 5,000 visitors a day. "The Tornado Ride was first introduced in Canada in 2003. Today, there are over 100 Tornado Rides in the world, with the only one in the Asean region being in WaterWorld@ i-City.

"i-City will have the three elements of nature, with The City of Digital Lights representing fire, the Snowalk, ice and WaterWorld, water." Ong was speaking after briefing the media on the progress of the water theme park. It is currently about 80 per cent complete.

The Tornado can take an average of 480 riders an hour. Every minute, 4,400 gallons of water are pumped into the funnel to ensure a smooth ride.

"This is an engineering marvel that ensures safety while providing riders with a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The Canadian design has taken into account all physical and kinetic aspects for total safety," said Ong. "WaterWorld@ i-City offers another opportunity for families to have good, clean and safe outdoor fun."

WaterWorld@i-City also offers a wave pool with a stage and LCD screen for concerts and special events, a giant jacuzzi and a river adventure through a Rockery Cave illuminated by LED lights. There is the Children Adventure pool for toddlers to enjoy a splashdown and multi-rainbow slides for children, teenagers and adults.

With the new water theme park, I-Berhad expects to see a 30 per cent increase in visitors, especially during the day.
