KUNDASANG: If all goes well, Sabah will have its own world music festival soon. The encouraging response at the Rhythms of Kinabalu concert at the highlands of Kinabalu Park here has convinced the organisers that it would be worth holding it on a bigger scale.
The Rhythms concert, featuring Sabah's performers and Malaysia's celebrated singer Zainal Abidin, was held in conjunction with the 25th Mount Kinabalu International Climbathon, which ended Sunday. Jointly organised by the Information, Communications and Culture, and Tourism ministries, the event was targeted at the large presence of foreign guests at the mountain race.
State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjunsaid discussions had already begun to make the Mount Kinabalu World Music Festival a reality. Masidi, who launched the event on behalf of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman, said the proposed musical gala would be different from Sarawak's famous annual Rainforest World Music Festival.
