Ministry targets unlicensed travel agents

Tourism Ministry’s licensing division will be conducting an operation called Ops Cuti to weed out unlicensed travel agents and tour operators. It is also targeted at tour operators selling and conducting outbound tour packages without an outbound licence.

The operation will be conducted at all international airports in Malaysia from time to time until end of the year and whenever necessary in the future. The ministry said unlicensed operators had tarnished the travel and tour industry’s image and affected the livelihood of licensed operators.

The public are advised to ensure that they book their outbound tours with travel agents and tour operators who have valid licence issued by the Tourism Ministry, to avoid any inconveniences at the airport. Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents members are advised to have the tour itinerary, passenger list and valid outbound licence number at hand when conducting tours.
