Tourists to Kelantan up by 10%

KOTA BARU: The number of local and foreign tourists who stayed in Kelantan increased by 10.7% last year. This, said state Tourism Malaysia director Zurina Abdul Samad, was a good reflection of the Tourism Transformation Plan (TTP) to woo 36 million visitors to the country by 2020. She said that based on Tourism Malaysia records, 638,000 people stayed in hotels in the state last year compared to 576,000 in 2009. “This increase has spurred Tourism Malaysia to add more eco-tourism packages to meet visitors’ needs this year,” Zurina told reporters here.

She also said the tourism transformation plan had projected that at least RM168bil would be generated for the national income by 2020. She said the offer of affordable luxury and highlighting the country’s natural assets were part of the plan for a yearly increase of 5% in tourist arrivals.
