PETALING JAYA: Sir Richard Branson’s stint as an AirAsia X stewardess will have to wait – the billionaire Virgin Atlantic founder has injured his knee and will not be able to don the high heels that go with the airline’s outfit. Branson had lost a bet to AirAsia chief executive officer Datuk Seri Tony Fernandes and had been scheduled to serve as a “stewardess” on the AirAsia X flight from London to Kuala Lumpur on Feb 21. Wishing Branson a speedy recovery, Fer nandes tweeted yesterday about the postponement.
The Virgin Atlantic boss shared in his blog on Tuesday that a teenager had run into him while he was skiing on New Year’s Day in Switzerland. The airline owner said he underwent an operation within 24 hours on his anterior cruciate ligament which was completely ruptured. Branson hoped to be ready for the flight but expressed worry that wearing high heel shoes would be “a step too far.” The billionaire was supposed to wear a female flight attendant’s uniform on a flight to Malaysia after he lost a bet over which team would fare better in last year’s Formula 1 championship season.
