Jerez Hosts First Official Pre-Season Test For Moto3

Spain – Wednesday 2nd March
Circuit: Circuito de Jerez
Circuit Length: 4.4 km
Bike #84 Jakub Kornfeil – (Best time):1’48.403 (Total laps): 64
Bike #7 Adam Norrodin – (Best time):1’48.899 (Total laps):61
The opening day of the first official Moto3 test, saw DRIVE M7 SIC Racing Team rider Adam Norrodin make a positive start to his debut year in the Championship.
With near perfect conditions at the Spanish circuit, the seventeen-year-old rookie wasted no time getting up to speed and improving his quickest time set at the team’s private test at Jerez, just two weeks earlier. Happy with the set-up of his #7 machine, Norrodin focussed his attentions on finding his rhythm on board the Honda NSF250RW. The young Malaysian showed good form as he continued to pick up the pace, concluding the second session of the day in a respectable nineteenth place.
Teammate Jakub Kornfeil, who set his best lap time in the third and final session of the day, experienced a tougher start to proceedings as he struggled to find his ideal set-up around the 4.4km track. Testing various settings throughout the day, the Czech rider worked hard to find a good feeling on his #84 bike, before setting his quickest time as the day came to a close.
Johan Stigefelt – Team Manager
“The first day is over and we have made some positive steps; still we have quite far to go but we are making good progress and that’s the important thing. We need to use these three days as best we can and feel ready for Qatar. Adam surprised us a bit today with what he did and he says he can definitely do more, so that’s really good. Jakub has been struggling a little but in the end he made a good step forward. Now we need analyse all the data and work on our settings for tomorrow.”

“I feel completely different from the test we had here a couple of weeks ago. The track conditions today were much better, so we went back to the basic settings that we received from Honda. At our last test at Jerez it was very windy and after analysing the data more we wanted to try certain settings again because in the wind the bike behaviour is so different. In the morning session I had a lot of problems in the fast corners and again in the second practice I was finding it very difficult to ride. We have been working very hard today and finally in the last session I was able to pick up my pace and improve my lap time. I’m happy for this step we made and I’m looking forward to continuing the progress tomorrow; for sure we have much more potential.”
#7 Adam Norrodin
“After this first day in Jerez, I feel good. The weather was a lot better today than the last time we were here and straight away I felt more comfortable on the bike. We only changed a couple of little things at the start of the first session and immediately I was able to improve my lap time from our last test at Jerez. In the final session of the day we decided to work on my pace on used tyres, which is why I didn’t improve my time any further, but still I’m very happy with my feeling on the bike and the pace we set without using any soft tyres.”
