Bukit Larut Popular In Current Hot Weather

TAIPING, March 16 (Bernama) -- Known as the wettest area in Malaysia, Bukit Larut here is a popular choice during the school holidays especially in the hot and dry weather due to El Nino.

Although the temperature nationwide has risen to 35 degrees celsius, on Bukit Larut the maximum temperature recorded so far was 27 degrees celsius.

A visitor from Johor, Salleh Said, 45, opted to go on a holiday with his family to Bukit Larut not only for its cool temperature but also for the beautful and peaceful environment.

"Although, the weather is hot, the coolness of the hill is unchanged and it is one of the places I will visit if I come to Perak," he said when met by Bernama here, today.

Also not missing out on the opportunity to escape the heat was Suhaila Mohd Ali, 30, who came with her family from Selangor.

"I am attracted to what is available here because it provides my children with knowledge," said Suhaila, who earlier also visited Taiping Zoo & Night Safari here.

Bukit Larut, also known as Maxwell Hill, is 1,200 metres above sea level.

Taiping Municipal Council (MPT) Tourism Education and Publicity Division chief Hanim Ramly said 3,000 people visited Bukit Larut from March 11 until yesterday.

"The public response to the two places during the school holiday is very encouraging," she said.

MPT took over the management of Bukit Larut from the Larut, Matang and Selama District Office since early this year.
