LANGKAWI, Jan 12 (Bernama) -- Forty yachts from around the globe including Malaysia will compete in this year's Royal Langkawi International Regatta (RLIR) from tomorrow until Jan 17.

Royal Langkawi Yacht Club (RLYC) general manager, Wicky Sundram said more than 300 yachtsmen from Malaysia, Great Britain, Australia, Thailand, Singapore, Russia, Austria, Denmark, China, Hong Kong, Italy, New Zealand and Japan had confirmed their participation in the 13th edition of RLIR.

"We hope all yachtsmen will enjoy this year's race just like last year and take the opportunity to enjoy Langkawi," he told the media at Royal Langkawi Yacht Club (RLYC), here, today.

He said four yachts would compete in the Racing Class, one from Australia and the rest from Malaysia. Peter Ahern's Oi! will compete against three yachts from Malaysia, represented by entries from the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN), namely Zuhal, Sarah and Utarid.

Wicky said although the number of yachts competing in the Racing Class had dropped compared to last year's, it would have no effect on the race.

The five-day RLIR 2015 will see the participants vying for trophies in five categories, namely the Racing Class, IRC Class, Sports Class, Multihull Class and Club Class.
