Its minister, Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said the 926-hectare mangrove forest was being increasingly threatened by erosion and giant waves that destroyed part of the attraction and facilities in the area.
"The main facilities affected by the threat are the 1.5 kilometre pedestrian way and the 'globe square' which form the tip of the Asian continent. Both facilities were built 10 years ago," he said.
Mohamed Nazri disclosed this to reporters after making a visit to the national park here today. Also present was the director of the Johor National Park Corporation (PTNJ), Mohammed Shakib Ali.
The minister said immediate action must be taken to rebuild the pedestrian way and a new square to ensure safety and at the same time attract more local and foreign visitors to the area.
