KUALA LUMPUR: Muslim travellers can expect more travel packages catering to their needs at the coming WITM-MATTA Fair to be held from Sept 6 to 8 at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here.
According to WITM-MATTA Fair September 2013 chairman Jeffri Sulaiman, it will be the first time that MATTA, or the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents, is holding the World Islamic Tourism Mart and the MATTA Fair simultaneously.
“The WITM-MATTA Fair September 2013 will occupy about 28,000 sq m, or eight halls in total,” he said during a press conference yesterday. Jeffri said that they were expecting more than 100,000 visitors and sales of RM150mil.
Fair adviser-cum-patron Datuk Mohd Khalid Harun said Muslims would have more opportunities to travel to non-Muslim countries through the MATTA promotions.
More countries have begun to understand the needs of Muslims like the need for halal food, prayer rooms and syariah-compliant insurance coverage, Khalid said.
“For example, there is now a prayer room at Japan’s Kansai International Airport. “At other places, swimming pools would have exclusive sections for females,” he said.
On the expected number of Muslim travellers to the fair, he said no data was available, but they would be collating it.
In conjunction with the fair, top industry players in the Muslim travel business will share with local players, through the WITM 7th Incomthu Conference on Sept 4 and 5 at PWTC, on how to successfully market to and manage this segment of tourists.
Khalid added that the new MATTAKad would also be launched during the fair.
The loyalty card rewards MATTA members with discounts and bonus points on purchases.
According to Tourism Malaysia domestic marketing division director Musa Yusof, 49.4 million domestic tourists brought in RM31.1bil in sales last year.
