Kota Kinabalu Jazz Festival (KKJF) is an annual fund raising jazz extravaganza jointly organized by the Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu (RCKK) and the Society of Performing Arts Kota Kinabalu Sabah (SPArKS). Staged in the picturesque Resort City melting pot of talents from around the world.
The festival was initiated in 2007 with the aim of promoting Kota Kinabalu in the international musical scene. The inaugural festival was held at the Jesselton Point, a renowned waterfront establishment in Kota Kinabalu. By its second edition in 2008, KK Jazz Festival attracted international. In 2009 till 2012 the festival expanded into a 2-night festival, successfully drawing over 4,000 audience during the 2-nights.
Apart from promoting Kota Kinabalu city as a tourism destination internationally, the festival has also successfully raised public awareness of the local community towards such popular music genre. With a series of pre-fringe festival and workshop, the festival is an excellent platform for learning and interaction between the local music enthusiasts and the international artists. In 2010 the festival incorporated the Sabah Jazz Talent Search across Sabah to seek new talents as a platform for then to showcase their talent and to also to give a chance for them (winner & selected band) to perform during the KK Jazz festival. The KK jazz Festival is now a signature event in Sabah’s annual calendar of events and Tourism Malaysia, and is also a key component of the Kota Kinabalu Arts Festival.
Nature of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, the jazz festival brings together a musical Community Projects Money raised from the KK jazz Festival is used to fund deserving community projects by the Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu - The Clean Water Project, Literacy Program and Eye Screening and Environment Protection. Some of the rural communities benefited from such initiative includes Kg. Timbou (Tuaran), Kg. Tamburan (Kota Belud). Kg. Kokol.
