Proposed expressway to reduce traffic on MRR2 by 24% and Jln Ampang 36%

Feedback is now being gathered on the proposed Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated Expressway (Suke) that will connect Sri Petaling and Ulu Kelang at the project’s exhibition in Carrefour Ampang from now until Feb 22.

The exhibition is being held from 10am to 7pm until Feb 14 and will move to the Level 4 lobby at Menara MPAJ from Feb 15 to 22 (9.30am to 5pm). One of the main objectives of the expressway is to provide an alternative route for the MRR2 and lessen traffic congestion that occurs at the Cheras, Pandan Indah and Ampang linkages.

The 31.8km three-lane dual carriageway elevated expressway will also link major highways in the eastern Klang Valley including the Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE), Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (AKLEH), Besraya, KL-Seremban Highway, Cheras-Kajang Highway, Kesas and MRR2.

SUKE will start at Sri Petaling before passing through Sungai Besi, Alam Damai, Cheras-Kajang, Taman Bukit Permai, Taman Putra, Taman Permai Jaya, Taman Dagang Permai, Taman Kosas, Ampang and Taman Hillview and exiting at Ulu Kelang. There will be 14 interchanges at Sri Petaling, Sungai Besi, Alam Damai, Cheras-Kajang, Taman Bukit Teratai, Taman Putra, Taman Permai, Taman Dagang, Ampang, Taman Hillview and Ulu Kelang.

Three toll plazas will be built along the expressway at Pekan Ampang, Alam Damai and between Taman Bukit Permai 2 and Taman Bukit Segar Jaya. SUKE will provide a direct link between new growth centres such as Kajang, Segambut and Kepong and save 50 minutes of travel time between the two points on the MRR2 (see map). Once completed, traffic is expected to reduce on the MRR2 by 24% and Jalan Ampang by 36%.

There will also be a public briefing on the project at the Menara MPAJ 5th Floor Auditorium on Feb 18 from 10am to noon.
