Zoo and safari hiring rangers

Taiping Zoo and Night Safari wants to hire 20 rangers to handle the large number of visitors for its night safari programme which was launched last year. Its director Dr Kevin Lazarus said more manpower was needed to run the programme smoothly especially during peak seasons. “The night safari has received good response and we need 20 more rangers to make it a total of 40 rangers in the zoo,” he said at a press conference recently.

Dr Lazarus said anyone could apply for the job. “We are looking for those who have a love for animals and have basic knowledge about wildlife. Experience in handling animals is an asset. “We will only call shortlisted candidates for the interview,” he said. Dr Lazarus said more rangers were needed to run the ‘educational fun’ programmes for children during school holidays and weekends.

“Rangers are also required during normal days to take visitors around the zoo and to educate them about animals,” he said. He said such programmes were important to create awareness on the importance of caring for animals and that animals need to be protected. Dr Lazarus said those interested in applying for the job can enquire details from the office. The public can also call the zoo at 05-8086577. The zoo’s website is www.zootaiping.gov.my.
