Sabah Fest 2011 promises to be a compelling cultural affair

KOTA KINABALU: Six exotic cultural dances which have never been showcased in previous shows, will be among the highlights of this year’s Sabah Fest here from April 30 to May 1. The dances are Dindang Dusun from Ranau, Sumarikayau from the Orang Sungai in Pitas, Manaradan from the Rungus in Kudat, Pokudinding from the Dusun Tindal in Kota Belud, Pangalai Dayang from the Suluk in Sandakan and Gabiluk from the Dusun Subpan in Lahad Datu.

In a statement issue by Sri Pelancongan Sabah Sdn Bhd, other popular dances that would also be featured in the festival includes the Sumazau Pisasavan from the Kadazan in Penampang and Anggalang or Magunatip from Tenom. Themed Pa’pa’kang, ‘the Odyssey of Seven Brothers’, the highly-anticipated show is a tantalising and compelling legend behind the origins of the largest ethnic community in Sabah, the Kadazandusun, as told through the journey and experience of a young boy, Aki Lintobon.

Apart from the show, visitors can also watch handicraft-making demonstrations by the respective ethnic groups and try out traditional food from 10am to 10pm at the Magellan Grand Ballroom, Sutera Harbour.
