He took over the position from Trevor McCartney effective last month. Prior to this, D’Arcy, who was born in West Africa but grew up in Dublin, Ireland has also served in convention centres in Australia and Doha. His last appointment was as the pre-opening general manager of the Qatar National Convention Centre since 2007. D’Arcy attended St Andrew’s college in Dublin and after graduating in 1972 he became a trainee manager with The Jury’s hotel group and graduating from that programme in 1975.

D’Arcy: ‘BCCK is a world-class venue in a destination which has so much to offer.’

In 1977 he joined the InterContinental Hotels group as a receptionist at the Paris InterContinental Hotel and held various front office, accounting and operational positions culminating with his appointment as the Mayfair InterContinental London general manager in 1989.

In 1991 D’Arcy returned to Port Vila Vanuatu as the Radisson Royal Palms Resort and Casino general manager before returning to Sydney as the Radisson Hotels Australia director of finance.

In 1994 he joined The Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre as finance director.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to take on the role of CEO at this wonderful centre and am looking forward to the challenges which lie ahead,” D’Arcy said in a BCCK press release. “BCCK is a world-class venue in a destination which has so much to offer. I have received a fantastic welcome here and I know that event organisers and delegates will experience the same friendly welcome. “I look forward to meeting everyone at AIME 2011 at Booth 2412 within the Malaysian Pavilion. To all our Chinese counterparts, Gong Xi Fa Cai and have a happy and prosperous year ahead,” he added.
