STB confident of a Singapore sling

The Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) is positive that the state could achieve its target of bringing in 61,905 tourists from Singapore by June this year. STB had launched the specially created Sarawak Integrated Packages (SIP) to raise tourist arrivals from the island state in October last year. This consumer driven strategy was executed in collaboration with tourism stakeholders both in Singapore and Sarawak. STB chief executive officer Datuk Rashid Khan said the board had yet to calculate the number of Singaporean arrivals but based on feedback, the response was picking up.

Under the SIP, the ultimate product experiences will be bundled into a package including transfers, accommodations, meals, tours and also airfares. Rashid said the package was targeting Singaporeans, especially students, as well as the expatriates in the country. “We have until June to sell the packages and we are still positive of the outcome because we have got flight connectivity from Singapore to Sarawak now,” he said.

Malaysia’s budget airline AirAsia had re-instated the Singapore-Miri route while Malaysia Airlines (MAS) was already flying from Singapore-Kuching-Miri. The SIP promotes soft adventure (jungle tracking, hills climbing, nature resorts, and caving), active adventure (sports, kayaking and diving) and cultural experience (food and culture).
