KUANTAN: Pulau Tioman's premier scuba diving event 'Start In Tioman (SIT)' will return tomorrow.
The four-day event from June 30 to July 3 at Kampung Genting is expected to attract some 150 dive enthusiasts including 40 newbies who are planning to obtain their scuba diving certification.
Tioman Development Authority (TDA) general manager Datuk Idros Yahya said the last two editions in 2020 and last year saw a limited number of participants due to the pandemic and travel restrictions.
"This year's event will see between 150 and 200 dive enthusiasts, including 40 who will obtain their scuba diving licence. Another 60 are divers who have already obtained their open water diving licence.
"Some divers want to obtain further certification to become advanced divers in various fields including night diving, technical diving or shipwreck diving. After more than 10 editions, SIT has become a popular annual event among diving enthusiasts," he said when contacted.
Idros said non-divers will have the opportunity to go for snorkelling, jungle trekking or hiking to the waterfall, participating in beach clean-ups or take part in other activities on the island.
"SIT is among the efforts to promote domestic tourism and support the safe return of international tourism. Visitors can either choose to travel by ferry or take the recently introduced direct flights from Subang to the island," he said.
