Media Practitioners, Travel Agents From 17 Countries To Attend Deepavali Open House In Kedah Tomorrow

ALOR SETAR, Nov 10 (Bernama) -- Approximately 152 media practitioners and travel agents from 17 countries will attend the national-level Deepavali Open House 2015 at Padang Awam Kulim, here Wednesday.

The invitation for the media practitioners and travel agents from those countries, including Australia, China, Korea, India, Indonesia and the United States, was part of Tourism Malaysia's effort, under its Mega Familiarisation Programme, to promote available tour packages and attractive tourist destinations in Malaysia.

Tourism Malaysia Deputy director-general (International Promotion) Datuk Azizan Noordin said the group would also be briefed on tourism products available in Kedah and Perlis.

"We hope they can also experience the excitement of Deepavali celebration here and at the same time, we can also share with them on everything else Malaysia has to offer," he told reporters here Tuesday.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Mahathir are scheduled to grace the open house, which also expected to draw some 50,000 people of all races.

Meanwhile, Kedah Religious, Indian and Siamese Community Affairs, Public Works, Tourism and Heritage Committee chairman Mohd Rawi Abdul Hamid said the state government had intensified its efforts to promote Visit Kedah Year (Discover Kedah) 2016 and to make Gunung Jerai as the second Geopark after Langkawi.

Proposal on effort to turn Gunung Jerai into a Geopark was being drawn up prior to submission to the state government, he added.
