Johor Promotes Sultan Iskandar Marine Park As Diving Spot For Tourists

NUSAJAYA, Nov 25 (Bernama) -- The Johor government is actively promoting the Sultan Iskandar Marine Park, Mersing, as a destination for diving activities to attract tourists.

State Tourism, Trade and Consumerism Committee chairman, Datuk Tee Siew Kiong said the Sultan Iskandar Marine Park included the islands off Mersing which were not only beautiful but also rich in a variety of unique marine life.

"Johor National Parks Corporation (PTNJ) is collecting data on the habitat and marine life at the Sultan Iskandar Marine Park to be published in brochures, compact discs and on the corporation's portal.

"Apart from that, PTNJ is also working to identify new locations for diving activities to attract more tourists to the state," he said in reply to a question from A.Aziz Ismail (BN-Senggarang) at the state assembly sitting, here, today.

"Promotional information is also being disseminated through travel fairs held at home and abroad, while there are collaborations with several overseas production companies for filming several locations of interest at the Sultan Iskandar Marine Park."

Tee said the state government had also identified several attractive spots in Mersing with great potential to boost tourism in the area.

"These attractions include Tanjung Leman, Air Papan beach and homestay, Teluk Buih beach, Teluk Gorek beach, Penyabong beach and Gunung Arong Recreational Forest," he said.

Tee said the East Coast Economic Corridor (ECER) had also picked Mersing as part of a long-term ecotourism development plan, including upgrading the basic facilities such as piers to spur tourism activities in the area.
