KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has emerged as one of the top travel destinations in the Asia Pacific for Indian travellers, according to the Asia Pacific Travel Intentions Survey 2010 of Visa and the Pacific Asia Travel Association (Pata). Visa Malaysia Country Manager Stuart Tomlinson said in a statement Monday that the survey showed 46% of the respondents from India named Malaysia as the one of their highest preferred destinations for the next two years.
"Malaysia is ahead of other Asia Pacific countries and territories such as Australia (38%) and Hong Kong (34 per cent). With India now the sixth largest source market for inbound tourism to Malaysia, these survey findings are very timely," he said. Tomlinson noted that the tourism potential between Malaysia and India was tremendous as both countries had recently forged close ties with six bilateral agreements, one of which was on tourism.
