ITALY, 19 November 2025 – The Embassy of Malaysia in Italy hosted
the launch of Visit Malaysia Year (VMY) 2026, welcoming 12 media
representatives, 10 tour operators, and 30 travel agents. The event marked a
key step in strengthening Malaysia’s presence in the Italian market.
The campaign theme “Surreal Experiences” and the new mascots Wira
and Manja, inspired by the Malayan sun bear, were unveiled as symbols of
Malaysia’s biodiversity and cultural richness. VMY 2026 aims to reach 35.6
million international arrivals and generate 147.1 billion ringgit (approx. €50
billion) in tourism revenue.
H.E. Dato’ Zahid Rastam, Ambassador of Malaysia to Italy, underlined
the strong bilateral relations and the rapid growth of Italian arrivals,
expected to surpass 80,000 visitors in 2025. Director of Tourism Malaysia
Paris, highlighted the essential role of media and trade in inspiring future
travellers.
Key travel updates included visa-free entry for Italians (with
mandatory Malaysian Digital Arrival Card), connections via 20 airlines, and
destination highlights spanning Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, Penang, the East Coast
islands, Sabah, and Malaysia’s ancient rainforests.
A lucky draw, supported by industry partners, concluded the evening,
offering prizes including Turkish Airlines flight tickets and hotel stays at
Bubu Resort, The Lisbon Hotel Melaka, The Taaras, and Gaya Island Resort.
Malaysia looks forward to welcoming a record number of Italian
travellers in 2026 as VMY kicks off globally.
