KUALA PERLIS, Sept 8 -- The 2019 Kuala Perlis
Water Festival, the sixth in a series since 2014, attracted more than 25,000
domestic and foreign visitors.
The two-day event, which kicked off yesterday at the Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority Complex here, featured water sports events, including a boat race, climbing up slippery poles and fishing competitions.
The participants included local agencies and villages in the area.
Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man said the state government was always making improvements to boost the tourism industry in the state.
Increasing the presence of visitors and tourists to the state helped in boosting the economy of the people and in improving tourism products that were available in Perlis, he added.
Azlan added that the state government also planned to organise a kite festival in the state as another tourist attraction.
He added that so far, three events were included in the Perlis Tourism Calendar as annual events, namely the Perlis Marathon, Pesta Angin Timur and the Kuala Perlis Water Festival.
Raja Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail and Raja Perempuan Perlis Tuanku Tengku Fauziah Tuanku Tengku Fauziah Tengku Abdul Rashid graced the event and presented prizes to the winners.
Kampung Sebarang Jaya was the overall champion, receiving a trophy from Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin.
Also present were Raja Muda Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, Raja Puan Muda Perlis Tuanku Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil and Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry deputy secretary-general (Tourism) Datuk Haslina Abdul Hamid.
