First-ever Marvel Run in Malaysia with 15,000 participants

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 7 -- The first-ever Marvel Run in Malaysia kicked off tonight at Dataran Putrajaya with 15,000 participants.

The event marks the first cooperation between Tourism Malaysia and power brand Marvel in line with the Visit Truly Asia Malaysia 2020 (VM2020) campaign.

There were four categories, namely 800 metres and 1.2 kilometres kids' dash, five kilometres (non-competitive) and 10 kilometres.

The 10 km run was flagged off by Tourism Malaysia director-general Datuk Musa Yusof here tonight.

"The cooperation will see dissemination of VM2020 publicity materials in multiple platforms by the organiser, including Disney Digital Network," he said.

Musa said Tourism Malaysia is delighted to work with Marvel Run 2019, which highlights Malaysia as a sport tourism destination, as well as a preferred entertainment hub.

He said the event was also part of efforts to boost promotion of VM2020, which aims to attract 30 million international tourists and RM100 billion in tourism receipts.

Musa said Tourism Malaysia will continue to cooperate with private organisers to bring international events to Malaysia as part of its marketing strategies.

Themed around four prominent Marvel superheroes, namely Captain America, Black Panther, Thor and Captain Marvel, the event attracted runners from all ages from Malaysia, as well as international participants including from Australia, Germany, the United Kingdom, Ecuador and Singapore.
