State Tourism Malaysia Urged To Set Up Homestay In Sungai Timun

REMBAU, Nov 19 (Bernama) -- Tourism Malaysia Negeri Sembilan has proposed for a homestay to be established at Sungai Timun near here in efforts to boost tourism said the state Tourism Malaysia director Ahmad Husni Ahmad Basri.

He said through the availability of a homestay that is equipped with infrastructure, tourists would not have to seek accommodation at Port Dickson and Seremban which is situated far from Sungai Timun.

Tourists would also be able to join tour packages to Sungai Timun which is famous for lobster fishing as well as activities such as observing crocodiles, fireflies and a colony of herons at the riverbank.

"Thus, we hope the state Homestay Operators Association and the Sungai Timun village development and security committee (JKKK) could help to transpire this aspiration.

"For the initial stage, ten houses would be chosen to become homestays for the area. These suggestion would then be submitted to Tourism Malaysia and the Ministry of Tourism to be reviewed prior to its approval," Ahmad Husni told reporters when attending the 'Eksplorasi Eko Pelancongan Sungai Menyala: Pemuliharaan Ekologi Sungai Timun' programme organised by the state Tourism Malaysia at Pengkalan Nelayan Sungai Timun, near here today.

"We should also seize this opportunity to attract the influx of Chinese tourists who go to Port Dickson as previously they would take tourist packages offered at Kampong Pachitan, Chuah," he added.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Razi said eco-tourism was currently a segment of the growing tourism industry and could promote efforts to preserve and conserve flora and fauna.
