DRIVE M7 SIC Racing Team riders Jakub Kornfeil and Adam Norrodin endured a tough qualifying session here today the Circuito de la Comunitat Valenciana, concluding proceedings in 24th and 30th place for tomorrows 24 lap race.
Johan Stigefelt – Team Manager
“Qualifying didn’t work out at all like we had planned today. Adam had a crash at the beginning of the session; he was pushing and on a good lap when it happened. We told Adam to go all in for the last qualifying of the year and when you do this, you risk crashing. Unfortunately the bike was too badly damaged to get Adam back out again, there was no possibility to repair it in time. It’s a shame but I know Adam will fight hard tomorrow; he’s happy with the bike and he knows the set-up works. Times are very close here, so he still has a chance to do well.
Jakub had a good FP3 and was in the top ten throughout. He started well in qualifying too but then he wasn’t really able to improve much. Saying that we are still positive about the Grand Prix. We have found a good set-up for him here and he feels confident with the bike. It’s disappointing for the team and Jakub as it is his last ever qualifying with us, but nevertheless he is a racer and I’m 100% sure we can do very well with him tomorrow.”
#84 Jakub Kornfeil
“We have been up the front since Free Practice two, so I knew already before qualifying that it would either be perfect or a disaster. There were only two options because every rider by QP was more or less at the same level and making a big difference all came down to getting a good slipstream. Unfortunately I had no luck for this in qualifying. I tried twice to stay with two other fast riders but it was very chaotic on track; if you didn’t get the slipstream today, you were not there.
I want to apologise to my team; it’s disappointing because we know that we could have easily been in the top nine today, but for tomorrow, we are prepared. Our bike is good and I am ready to fight, so let’s enjoy this last race and give it everything we have!”
#7 Adam Norrodin
“I felt really comfortable from the beginning of qualifying. We had a good plan and it all started well. I knew I had to do my best today and push my absolute hardest. We put in new tyres, so for the first lap I wanted to just get an idea of the bike performance before I pushed to my max. My target was to break into the 1m39s lap times. On my first flying lap I was good in sector one but then in sector two I nearly crashed, so I lost some time there. I found my rhythm again in sector three and I was on for my fastest lap, but then in sector four I had a big crash. We checked the data straight after but we couldn’t see that I did anything wrong, so I don’t know how it happened, I just lost the front. Unfortunately this was just eight laps into qualifying, so I didn’t have a chance to make a really good lap time beforehand. I really wanted more; it was a tough session to sit out of. The good thing is that I feel comfortable with my bike and I feel positive we can make a good race still tomorrow. I want to say sorry and thank you to my mechanics! We are pushing quite a lot here, so I hope that I can repay them for all their hard work with a good race result.”
