Holding the Moto3 lap record around Silverstone from 2014, Jakub Kornfeil made a positive start to the British Grand Prix. Getting into a good rhythm around the 5.9km circuit, the Czech rider concluded the first free practice in sixth place, just 0.549s off the top of the timesheets. Despite being unable to better his position for Free Practice Two, Kornfeil continued to improve his time, feeling happy with the set-up of his KTM machine.
Under the cool clear skies, teammate Zulfahmi Khairuddin set about finding a good feeling on his #63 bike. Staying true to his word, the Malaysian rider worked hard to improve his riding style. Feeling more confident as the day progressed, the 23 year old consistently chipped away at his lap time from morning practice, improving his pace by nearly one and a half seconds as the day came to a close.

“In the morning practice I just focussed on my riding and finding a good feeling on the bike. Conditions were quite cool at the start and I felt I needed some more grip, so it took me some time to build my pace. In the afternoon I felt a lot more confident. I’m happy with the set-up we have and I don’t think there is a lot we really need to change. I just have to continue to push hard. It’s a big circuit and a long lap here, so it’s going to be really important to qualify well tomorrow. My target is top twenty.”
#84 Jakub Kornfeil
“Today was a good day for us. We arrived here and didn’t really have to touch the bike; we just continued with our set-up from Brno in FP1 and the bike was working. The first few laps were a little difficult because like always the track was a bit dirty at the start, but this is the same for everyone. After this it came good and I was able to find a good rhythm. At the end of the first practice we finished sixth. The bike felt really good so I had hoped to do the same for FP2 but we didn’t make the best tyre choice at the end of the session and this cost us some positions. Nevertheless we have barely touched the bike today and I am feeling confident. For tomorrow we just want to continue making progress on track and find ourselves in a better position. Tonight we will look a little at improving the electronics but apart from this, I’m really happy with our set-up. Strategy will be important for tomorrow, so now we must make a plan so we are ready for qualifying.”
