Its minister, Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz, said it was the first time the logo was changed since 1995.
"For kampungstay, it is indeed a recognition for the product registered under the Malaysian Homestay Experience Programme," he said at the meeting with the industry players and the launch of the new logo at the MIEL Industrial Area in Padang Rengas here Friday night.
He said the Homestay Experience Programme had recorded a total of 350,954 participants last year, which was an increase of almost eight per cent from the previous year.
"In terms of revenue, it has also increased by 16 per cent to RM21.6 million last year from the previous year. The homestay industry has such a big potential to be developed," he said.
Mohamed Nazri said the ministry had so far registered 170 homestay clusters with 3,486 operators offering 4,834 rooms for tourists.
He said in Perak alone, 10 homestays had been registered, including Bukit Gantang Homestay, Sungai Klah Homestay, Beng Homestay, Selama Homestay, Gopeng Homestay and Bagan Datoh Homestay.
"The ministry has allocated RM31.8 million under the 10th Malaysia Plan with the implementation of 42 projects in Perak which aimed at boosting the tourism sector, including projects to develop and upgrade eco-tourism and homestay facilities," he added.
