MITM Travel Fair 2014 aims for RM40 mil turnover

KUALA LUMPUR: The 13th Malaysian International Travel Mart (MITM) Travel Fair 2014, supported by the Tourism and Culture Ministry, will be held for three days starting on Friday at the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre.
The fair, which is sponsored by the Taiwan Visitor Bureau, Tourism Authority of Thailand, Philippine Department of Tourism, Pixajoy and Bank of China, will see 70 local and foreign exhibitors putting up some 300 exhibition booths which will offer a wide range of attractive travel packages, air fares and travel related products and services, with free admission to visitors.
Malaysian Chinese Tourism Association (MCTA) national president Paul Paw said the event is expected to attract some 78,000 visitors, with an estimated RM40 million gross sales turnover.
MCTA is partnering AirAsia and several other tourism agencies in organising the exhibition, Paw told a press conference at Cititel Hotel. Also present were Tourism Malaysian domestic marketing divison senior deputy director Zalizam Zakaria.
This year, the organisers are giving away attractive prizes worth RM250,000, which include air tickets to international destinations and tour packages, said MITM Travel Fair 2014 chairman Annie Ng.
"Just spend a minimum of RM250 during the three days to qualify. The more you buy, the more chances for you to win," she said.
Zalizam said the tourism ministry will use this travel fair as a platform to promote tourism, in line with Visit Malaysia 2014.
