Southern Cuisine To Tickle Palates At Sydney Malaysian Food Fest

MELBOURNE, Sept 13 (Bernama) - The Low Yat Group-owned The Grace Hotel in Sydney will again hold its highly successful Flavours of Malaysia food festival over 18 days starting from Sept 26.
The popular event, in its fourth year, has attracted hundreds of Sydneysiders who have enjoyed a memorable gastronomy journey that is bound to bring them back this month to the elegant Grace Brasserie.

Specialty dishes from Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor will be featured and will be prepared by award-winning Malaysian chefs comprising Tan Kok Siong (head chef), Sharun Ramli, Adinnin Amat Usop and Harmizie Mohamed who will be flown to Sydney to showcase Malaysia's exotic and diverse cuisine.

Tourism Malaysia and Malaysia Airlines are once again supporting the festival. Ayam Brand and Halal Enterprises Pty Ltd will supply ingredients and spices.

Philip Pratley, general manager of The Grace Hotel Sydney, said diners would get a chance to win many prizes such as a return ticket on Malaysia Airlines to Kuala Lumpur from Sydney with two nights accommodation at Capitol Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

Ooi Lee Ping, director of Group Marketing and Sales, Federal Hotels International, said the Flavours of Malaysia festival coincided with the month-long Crave Sydney International Food Festival in October.

She said it would be a busy time for food enthusiasts with the three-month Fabulous Food 1Malaysia dining feast in October, Asean Food in November and Delicious Street Food in December.

"Food tourism will play a vital role in Visit Malaysia Year 2014," she said.

"We hope our food festival in Sydney will bring more Australians to Malaysia to enjoy our unique cuisine, culture and our amazing tourist attractions," Ooi said.

"Last year, over half a million Australians travelled to Malaysia, making Australia the eighth top tourist generating market to our country. We hope we can improve on this figure."
