KUALA LUMPUR, May 4 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Airlines (MAS) will launch its inaugural flight to Dammam, Saudi Arabia via Dubai from Kuala Lumpur Tuesday night. In a statement here Tuesday, MAS said the new route, its fifth destination to the Middle East, would further strengthen its presence in the region. Its managing director-cum-chief executive officer, Tengku Datuk Azmil Zahruddin, said the airline would use the Airbus 330-200 aircraft which has a seating capacity of 229.
He said MAS has invested RM6 million to develop awareness of the new destination and expand the market. "This is in line with our strategy to grow this year through the modernisation of fleet and expansion of capacity, with additional frequencies and new destinations," he said. Azmil said MAS aimed to be the preferred carrier to Dammam from KL, to provide the vital link for those conducting business in Middle East. MAS currently operates flights to Dubai, Jeddah, Istanbul and Beirut.
