DUBAI, May 18 (Bernama) -- After a seven-year hiatus, the Royal Jordanian (RJ) airline will resume its regular flights to the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, beginning June 2. RJ president and chief executive, Hussein Dabbas, said the decision to reconnect Jordan and Malaysia came in light of what he described as the Malaysian economic revival and the growth of its commercial activity as well as tourism. The carrier stopped its Kuala Lumpur service in 2003 due to what it viewed as "weak economic feasibility of the route over the past years". "Feasibility studies conducted by the company showed that resuming flights to Kuala Lumpur is bound to service the economic and commercial movement, and the communities living in the two countries, particularly students and businessmen," he said in a statement.
Additionally, RJ will be transporting tourist groups to and from Malaysia, as the Southeast Asian nation is a preferred destination for Jordanian families and various other countries in this region, the airline said.Dabbas also pointed out that Jordan constituted a stop for Malaysian passengers travelling to the holy places in Mecca and Medina. RJ will operate three weekly flights departing from Amman on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, via Bangkok. The Jordanian carrier will deploy the 283-seat Airbus A330 aircraft that will join the RJ fleet on May 24. Kuala Lumpur is the second destination being added to RJ's route network in 2010, after Medina. With the addition of Kuala Lumpur, the airline's destinations reach 58, served directly from Amman.
