Lada Wants To Attract More Middle East Tourists

LANGKAWI, May 17 (Bernama) -- The Langkawi Development Authority (Lada) wants to double efforts to attract more Middle East tourists to visit this tax free island resort. Tourism manager Megat Shahrul Azman Abas said tour agencies should create more packages tailored to Middle East tourists as a promotion in Dubai, Kuwait and Qatar found that many agencies there were keen on Langkawi. He would be discussing with tour agencies and hotel operators to create the packages which include marriage, honeymoon, yachting, beach, shopping and food.

Efforts would also be made to get Middle East tourists to stay longer during the Ramadan fasting month. Over 100,000 tourists from Middle East countries are expected to visit Langkawi this year. Megat Shahrul who accompanied Tourism Malaysia to the "Arabian Travel Market" in Dubai recently said Langkawi was among the favoured destinations other than Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Sabah. He also had a discussion with two Iranian tour agencies handling tour packages to Malaysia.
