MUAR: Players in the tourism industry have been urged to be more innovative and creative in exploiting and capitalising on products that are unique to their areas. Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen said every product, no matter how small, had the potential to attract visitors and tourists. She said the players, including the relevant departments, should also know how to promote and sell the products in an attractive package.
“Take Muar, for example, which has a beautiful river, beautiful old buildings as well as old trees which add beauty to the town’s scenery. “The river, the buildings and the trees have a certain heritage and we can promote them in our tourism packages,” she said yesterday. Dr Ng said the town was also popular for its food such as satay, mee bandung and asam pedas and players could promote Muar as a food destination. She said Muar was also the only district in the country which had a Barongan dance group. She said the group, from Kampung Parit Bugis in Sungai Balang, could be engaged to perform at Tanjung Emas near the estuary during weekends. Dr Ng said these initiatives would add value to the tourism industry.
