KUALA LUMPUR, March 22 (Bernama) -- The second Malaysian Water-ski and Wakeboard National Championship in Putrajaya from March 26 to 28 has attracted 50 entries from eight countries. Malaysian Water Ski Federation (MWSF) honorary secretary, Phillipa Yoong said there has been an upsurge of interest from Malaysians as well as from foreigners, following the success of the inaugural event. "Out of the 50 entries received for the event so far, 27 are from overseas and the rest Malaysians," she said in a statement on Monday.
She said water-ski and wakeboard facilities in Putrajaya has attracted Malaysians to learn water-skiing and wakeboarding, forcing the site to remain open, six days a week. The ski site also attracts foreigners who like to water-ski or wakeboard in Putrajaya apart from making side tours as their secondary diversion while in Malaysia. "We now have a big group of young skiers who are mostly in their teens and pre-teens participating in round one after one year of training and competitions," she said. She said some of the participants would be ready for overseas competitions later this year, such as the Jakarta Muscat International Water-ski and Wakeboard Federation (IWWF) Asian Championship and the Asian Beach Games.
