Tax Free Island In Tasik Kenyir To Be Operational In September

JOHOR BAHARU, March 24 (Bernama) -- The Pulau Bayas tax free zone in Tasik Kenyir, Terengganu is expected to be fully operational in September.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman said, currently, 75 per cent of the preparation to turn the island into a tax free zone had been completed.

"I am confident we can launch the tax free island in September," he told reporters after launching 'Beautiful Terengganu Malaysia' at Plaza Angsana, here, last night.

He said other than the tax free island, Terengganu also offered numerous attractive products for tourists coming to Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Razif said the state government targeted 6.5 million local and foreign tourists in conjunction with the 2017 Visit Terengganu Year.

He said the target was a realistic one based on numerous promotion programmes conducted since the end of last year.

"We target 30 to 40 per cent of the 6.5 million visitors to Terengganu to be from abroad," said Ahmad Razif.

Among the promotion programmes held to achieve the tourists arrival target was the 2015 Pesona Terengganu, 2016 Beautiful Terengganu and international level promotions at several major cities in China, he said.

Also present were State Tourism, Domestic Trade and Consumerism Committee chairman Datuk Tee Siew Kiong and Terengganu Tourism and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jidin Shafee.

Among the attractions of the programme include numerous attractive tourism packages, Terengganu traditional food and exhibition areas.

According to Ahmad Razif, the selection of Johor as a location of focus was to lure more tourists from the southern part of the peninsula and Singapore.

Sarawak Eyes 5 Million Tourist Arrivals This Year, Via Singapore, Hong Kong

KUCHING, March 23 (Bernama) -- With a view to luring five million tourists to Sarawak this year, the state government will liaise with Singapore and Hong Kong to record the statistics from the two iconic Asian tourist hubs.

State tourism minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg noted that last year, 60 per cent of the 25.7 million tourists to Malaysia came through Singapore, while Hong Kong was the gateway for tourists from mainland China.

He said the state government had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Singapore Cooperation Enterprise to tap the island's expertise in developing new tourism destinations and products.

He was speaking to the media after chairing the Sarawak Tourism Steering Committee annual meeting here Wednesday.

On Singapore, Abang Johari said the state would hold its 'Sarawak Week in Singapore' promotion campaigns in the next two months under the tagline, 'Let's Play, Play in Sarawak...Where Adventure Lives'.

He added there would be aggressive promotions through bus wraps, documentaries, product updates and business sessions in the island's media and on social media.

On Hong Kong, Abang Johari said the state government had also signed an MoU with Hong Kong Airlines which would begin its maiden flight here, beginning April 26 and then twice weekly direct from Hong Kong.

WSBK may be scrapped from Sepang next year

in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday. - AZLINA ABDULLAH / The Star

KUALA LUMPUR: The Sepang International Circuit (SIC) may stage its last Superbike World Championship (WSBK) this year.
The current three-year deal ends this May when Malaysia hosts the sixth leg from May 14-15.
SIC chief executive Datuk Razlan Razali hinted that they may not extend their contract with rights holders Dorna due to unprofitability and dwindling interest in the championship.
“We are undecided on whether to continue (hosting) or not,” said Razlan after launching a promotion campaign for the championship on Tuesday.
“Our motorsport fans here can relate to MotoGP (World Motorcycle Championship), but are still trying to understand what WSBK is all about.”
The SIC brought the WSBK to the country two years ago following strong interest in motorcycle racing. But it failed to take off with poor attendance. Only 22,664 fans turned up last year compared to 34,000 in the first season.
Razlan is now counting on debutant Zulfahmi Khairuddin, a former Moto3 rider, to draw in the fans in May.
Zulfahmi is racing for Orelac Racing VerdNatura in the Supersport category.
Despite being new to the series, the 24-year-old Zulfahmi has adapted well to the heavier 600cc machine.
He finished 13th in the season-opening race in Phillip Island, Australia, last month. He then went on to finish a creditable seventh at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand, two weeks ago.
Zulfahmi is now 11th in the riders’ standings with 12 points.
And he has vowed to make the local fans proud again just like he did in 2012 when he notched a career-best runner-up finish in Moto3 at Sepang.
“It’s all going well after the first two races. As a newcomer, I can’t really ask for a better start,” said Zulfahmi.
“I can only get better. I will try to build on the solid start and hopefully I’ll hit top form come May when the race is held in Malaysia.”

Nasi lemak listed in TIME Magazine’s healthy breakfasts

PETALING JAYA: Nasi lemak, the staple Malaysian dish, has been recognised as one of 10 most healthy international breakfasts by TIME Magazine.

Listing down the various components of the coconut rice dish, the article described nasi lemak as “supremely delicious”.
“Yes, there’s a bit more fat than is good for you (eat less rice to reduce), but it’s balanced with lots of manganese, protein, and carbs.
“The chili in the sambal also boosts the metabolism (depending which nutritionist you talk to),” according to the article on Tuesday.
Also on the list was the Turkish breakfast spread featuring olives, tomato, white cheese, eggs and sausages as well as the Israeli shakshouka in which eggs are poached in a tomato and vegetable sauce.
The Japanese breakfast of various side dishes alongside rice and the Vietnamese pho bone broth, which comes with a variety of vegetables and herbs were also listed.
Egypt’s entry was ful medames with broad beans spiced and stewed overnight, while gallo pinto, black beans with rice, from Costa Rica was also selected.
Europe’s contribution to the list consisted of porridge, with Iceland’s hafragrautur oatmeal porridge and the Russian kasha, a porridge consisting of various grains and cooked in milk, making the list.
Upma from India was featured as well, described as a thick concoction made from dry roasted semolina.
Once a farmer’s meal, nasi lemak now enjoys widespread popularity across Malaysia and is commonly considered the country’s national dish.

Kornfeil Secures Solid Tenth Place; Rookie Norrodin Battles Into The Top Twenty At Qatar

Qatar, Doha – Sunday 20th March
Circuit: Losail International Circuit
Circuit Length: 5.4 km
The Commercial Bank Grand Prix of Qatar saw a positive start to the DRIVE M7 SIC Racing Team’s 2016 Moto3 campaign, with riders Jakub Kornfeil and Adam Norrodin securing 10th and 20th place at the opening round in Qatar.
Under the floodlights of the Losail International Circuit, Moto3 rookie Adam Norrodin made a good start off the line, claiming five places on lap one. With 18 laps ahead the 17-year-old impressed with a solid race pace throughout. Battling for seventeenth position, the young Malay fought to the very end, provisionally holding nineteenth place on the last lap, before concluding his first Moto3 race in a respectable 20th place.
Starting from sixteenth place on the grid Jakub Kornfeil immediately pushed hard to battle his way through the field and up to eleventh positon on lap two. Relentlessly fighting within his group, the Czech rider became locked in a battle for tenth. Continuously dicing amongst the pack, Kornfeil fought hard to hold his position to the line, claiming tenth place as the chequered flag came out and securing the team’s first points of the season.
Johan Stigefelt – Team Manager
“The conditions today were good and both riders had a much better Warm Up than qualifying yesterday. We made a good step this afternoon with our set-up and both Jakub and Adam felt good on their bikes. Coming into the race our goal was always top ten for Jakub, which he did, so I’m pleased about this. He missed out a little in the middle of the race to go with the front group but still we scored points in our first race of the year and this is very important. Adam did a great race today; he was lapping very fast the whole race through and was less than a second per lap off the pace of the leaders. He had a good fight with Pawi, Ono and Rodrigo; we saw and a big effort from him today and we’re impressed with his performance. The way he rode and the way he went into the race mentally was great. Twentieth maybe doesn’t sound so good but it is a solid effort for his first race in the Championship.”
#84 Jakub Kornfeil: P10
“I feel very good with the result today, especially after having some difficult moments in qualifying. Already in Warm Up we made some very good improvements and I have to say a big thanks to my crew chief for this. We found a good combination with the tyres and suspension and the bike was working so well. I really enjoyed riding! It was a beautiful race because we had so many battles and so much passing every lap. I’m happy that I won the fight in my group. I wanted to break away with Bastianini many laps before the end but unfortunately I never arrived to the first corner first. This is one thing we need to look at over the next week; I think we still need to understand the gearbox a bit more on the Honda. Anyway I am very happy after all of these days here in Qatar, we found a good setting and we could make a good result. Top ten is a good start to the season and this is very important. For sure our chances were higher today but I’m happy to take this position and come away with points. Thanks again to my team and the sponsors for their support.”
#7 Adam Norrodin: P20
“I’m so happy to have had my first race in Moto3. It was a great feeling. The qualifying didn’t go well yesterday and I knew it would not be easy starting from 27th place, so I prepared so much last night and this morning about how to be in the race. Warm Up went really well and I finished the session in 16th; I felt a lot more confident and comfortable with the bike. The team did a really good job with the set-up today and I must thank them because I had such a good feeling with it throughout the race. This weekend has been tough so I’m pleased to have a positive result. Thank you to Sepang Circuit and all the sponsors for this opportunity; I hope to continue my progress and improve more every round.”

Sixth And Ninth Row Start For The DRIVE M7 SIC Racing Team In Qatar

Qatar, Doha – Saturday 19th March
Circuit: Losail International Circuit
Circuit Length: 5.4 km
Bike #84 – Jakub Kornfeil
QP: P16; 2’06.948 – 14 laps
Bike #7 – Adam Norrodin
QP: P27; 2’07.582 – 12 laps
DRIVE M7 SIC Racing Team riders Jakub Kornfeil and Adam Norrodin are ready for their first race of the season, despite experiencing a tough qualifying under the floodlights of Losail International Circuit.
As the forty minute session got underway the duo immediately began pushing for a fast lap, but were unable to find their good rhythm previously shown throughout the practice sessions.
Determined to make amends, Kornfeil and Norrodin remain focussed for a strong comeback in tomorrow’s Commercial Bank Grand Prix of Qatar.
Johan Stigefelt – Team Manager
“To jump straight into qualifying without any practice on the same day is always a bit of a lottery for everyone and unfortunately it affected our riders quite a lot today. The conditions today were very strange compared to the other days we have been here and the strategy we had didn’t work out; both riders had a problem with the front, so they couldn’t push as they wanted. Adam had a crash yesterday and to go straight from this into his first qualifying in this championship is very difficult mentally. Considering this I don’t think he did such a bad job; the position is not good but he is only 1.4 seconds behind pole. For Jakub we were definitely hoping for more but he had such big problems with his bike, so it was very difficult for him to push harder. He was a bit unlucky too because there were a couple of laps where he had his fastest lap and then experienced some issues. We know he is a good racer and will fight hard tomorrow, so we are looking forward to the race which I believe will be a much better result than today.”
#84 Jakub Kornfeil
“I’m very disappointed with qualifying today because I know we didn’t do our best job. We thought that the soft tyres in the front would be the better option, like they were for the IRTA test here, but unfortunately it was not the right decision and we could not change our plan during the qualifying. The bike was very difficult to ride and I didn’t want to crash. I just tried to be around fast riders but even this didn’t help a lot. The bike was moving so much during the corner and out of the exit. I was trying to push every lap, but always something happened and the feeling was not good. We now have to just focus on tomorrow and do a good job in warm up and then we will see in the race. For sure 16th position on the grid is not where we want to be but it won’t stop me fighting for a better result.”
#7 Adam Norrodin
“Today’s qualifying was really tough for me; after the crash yesterday I didn’t feel so good. I felt less confident on the bike and I struggled to find my rhythm. I tried to push but I was unable to improve my lap time. Now I know what qualifying is really like in the Moto3 Championship, so after this I hope to be much better. Although I am not happy with my grid position I have learned a lot from today and I know better what I need to focus on and how to go into qualifying. It will be a difficult race tomorrow but I will try my best to finish my first race well.”

Panorama
Paradise Resort - Lokasi eko-pelancongan terbaharu di Sabah

http://panoramaparadise.com/

- ASSIM HASSAN
