LANGKAWI: A total of 132 events have been listed in the
Langkawi Events Calendar 2025 to enhance the island's tourism sector in
conjunction with Visit Kedah Year 2025 (VK2025).
Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) chief executive officer
Datuk Haslina Abdul Hamid said the events involve collaborations with
government agencies, private entities, and non-governmental organisations.
She said six main clusters will be the focus this year,
highlighting the arts, culture, sports, promotions, community, and geoparks
that are unique to Langkawi's identity.
"The Asean Summit 2025, including the Asean Foreign
Ministers' Retreat from Jan 18 to 19, is a key event to kickstart Langkawi's
tourism calendar this year.
"This will be followed by the Royal Langkawi
International Regatta (RLIR) 2025, running from Jan 20 to 25," she said
during yesterday's Langkawi Events Calendar 2025 launch and New Year's Eve
celebration.
She said that out of the 132 planned events, 36 are dedicated
to sports and culture, 17 to international promotions, ten to domestic
promotions, and 26 to community programmes.
"In addition, there are 24 investment mission programmes
and 19 geopark events, all aimed at achieving the target of 3.5 million tourist
arrivals by year-end," she said.
Meanwhile, Langkawi district officer Mohamad Subhi Abdullah
expressed confidence that the VK2025 campaign would successfully attract 3.5
million domestic and international visitors to the island.
"Our target is to welcome 3.5 million tourists to
Langkawi this year, contributing to the state government's goal of seven
million visitors to Kedah during VK2025," he said.
