IPOH: The Perak state government has introduced the Southern Thailand–Perak Packages, a landmark initiative aimed at strengthening tourism ties and boosting regional economies.

State Tourism, Industry, Investment, and Corridor Development Committee chairman Loh Sze Yee said the initiative sought to foster seamless travel experiences between the two regions, targeting at least 5,000 tourists annually from each area.

"As part of this programme, tourists who purchase packages worth RM600 and above will receive a special RM150 travel voucher, adding value and encouraging cross-border tourism," he said.

The initiative is underpinned by two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). The first was signed between Perak Bumiputera Tourism Entrepreneurs (PPBP) president Zamari Muhyi and Thai-Asean Halal Tourism Trade Association (Tahta) president Aida Oujeh, while the second involved C&P World Tour managing director Jiralak Padungpakdeewong, representing the Thai Travel Agents Association (TTTA) Lower Southern Thailand, and Time Free Vacation Sdn Bhd managing director Esther Saw.

"These partnerships reflect a shared commitment to providing enriching travel experiences while prioritising sustainability and inclusivity," said Loh in a statement today.

He said that the collaboration between PPBP and Tahta highlighted a focus on halal tourism, ensuring Muslim travellers enjoy experiences aligned with their cultural and religious needs.

Similarly, the partnership between Time Free Vacation Sdn Bhd and C&P World Tour aims to tap into new markets, offering unique cross-border travel opportunities and strengthening ties between the regions.

The MoU signing was held yesterday at the 30th Thailand International Travel Fair 2025 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre, Bangkok.

Loh described the Southern Thailand–Perak Packages as thoughtfully curated to showcase the best of both regions. "Whether it's exploring the pristine beaches of Southern Thailand or discovering Perak's lush landscapes and rich heritage, these packages offer extraordinary experiences for every traveller," he said.

The packages also feature Muslim-friendly options, enabling travellers to explore comfortably while observing their religious practices. The "Around Travel Packages" further expand the appeal by offering inclusive travel experiences that highlight the natural beauty, history, and culture of both regions.

"This initiative goes beyond tourism — it opens new avenues for collaboration and creates lasting memories for visitors worldwide. With the dedication of all stakeholders, the Southern Thailand–Perak packages will undoubtedly succeed, drawing countless visitors and elevating the tourism industry to new heights," he added.
