The Chapman’s Challenge 2023 At Pangkor Laut Resort Announces NORQAIN As Its New Timekeeper Partner

Pangkor Laut Resort, 22 June 2023 – The Chapman’s Challenge, held annually at the exquisite Pangkor Laut Resort’s private island, is set to take place from August 25 to 27, 2023. With up to 70 participants expected to compete, this much beloved trail run promises to be an exciting race with top honours at stake, including a unique timepiece from NORQAIN, the Chapman’s Challenge 2023 Official Timekeeper. NORQAIN, an independent Swiss watch brand renowned for its innovative approach, will feature prominently throughout the race.

The Chapman’s Challenge remains an alluring event, commemorating the remarkable feat of the late British Colonel Freddy Spencer Chapman, who, in 1945, crossed enemy lines and swam across Emerald Bay to safety after hiding from the Japanese army for more than three years. The race which comprises a 3.8km road run around the island and a 2.4km trek through the island’s untouched rainforest, culminates in a 1km swim in the sea off Emerald Bay, concluding at Chapman’s Bar.

In the evening, participants will gather at Chapman’s Bar for cocktails, followed by a sumptuous barbeque dinner and the prize-giving ceremony at Emerald Bay. The top five finishers’ times will be immortalised on a scoreboard at Chapman’s Bar, with the top three racers in each category winning an exciting stay at luxurious properties within the YTL Hotel’s global portfolio. The overall winner will be awarded a 42mm NORQAIN’s Wild ONE Khaki The Chapman’s Challenge 2023 timepiece, valued at RM24,980. This unique watch features a special printed Pangkor Laut Resort logo on the sapphire crystal caseback and is from NORQAIN’s Independence Wild ONE collection, chosen for its close connection to Colonel Freddy Spencer Chapman’s indomitable spirit. The timepiece’s case is robust with a shock-resistance withstanding 5,000Gs, and is the proven companion for those who demand a high-performance sports watch, built with a NORTEQ case that acts as a protective cage, with rubber shock absorbers that protects the Manufacture Calibre NN20/01.

To further celebrate this unique timekeeping collaboration with The Chapman’s Challenge 2023, NORQAIN – together with Pangkor Laut Resort – announces a limited edition “The Chapman’s Challenge” timepiece series. Only 15 pieces will be made, exclusively for pre-orders purchase by The Chapman’s Challenge 2023 participants. Based on NORQAIN’s Independence 40mm timepiece, the unique hand-scratched dial features a colour inspired by the emerald straits of Pangkor Laut Resort. The timepiece is equipped with The Chapman’s Challenge 2023 inscription and the Pangkor Laut Resort logo featured on the sapphire caseback.

The watch can be personalised with a custom message on the NORQAIN Plate located on the left side of the case, serving as a reminder of the treasured moments and treasured places where the watch owners ran the race of their lives in Colonel Freddy Spencer Chapman’s footsteps.

AirAsia wins World's Best Low-Cost Airline for 14th consecutive time at Skytrax

21 June 2023, PARIS: Celebrations are in the air once again for AirAsia that has been voted the World's Best Low-Cost Airline at the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2023 (Skytrax) for a record- breaking 14th consecutive year.

The airline also emerged as a leading carrier in Asia when it took home the Best Low-Cost Airlines in Asia during the award ceremony held at the Paris Air Show in Le Bourget here yesterday.

AirAsia emerged top in its category as a global benchmark of airline quality and excellence in the final results from a list of more than 325 airlines.

Capital A chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, who went on stage to collect the award, described the award this year as a significant milestone to mark a remarkable comeback after the Covid-19 pandemic.

"I have been attending the awards in Paris and London for a long time but this one probably means the most to me. I do not think any brand in the world has won awards for 14 times in a row...it is amazing for a country like Malaysia to come to this global stage and walk away with the awards 14 times.

"I would say winning the award 14 times out of 21 years is quite something. Many wrote us off and others were upset with us over the refunds but people voted for us as we have been consistent.

"It is tough to run an airline during Covid-19 and we have come out of it. Of all the awards won over the past 21 years, this is the most important one for me because we are coming back from Covid-19 and winning is vital as we have proved to the world that we are the best despite the issues out there....I think moving forward, we will get better," he told reporters after the award ceremony.

Fernandes said they were immensely proud and grateful for the meaningful award given by the Skytrax organisers, voters, and the incredible supporters of AirAsia.

"Receiving an award of excellence for 14 consecutive years is a remarkable achievement, one that fills our hearts with joy and humility. This is an extraordinary feat for any company in any industry, even more so for our proudly Asean brand.

"People will always remain the airline's biggest asset and we are thrilled to confirm that all of our 22,000 Allstars who tirelessly strive to provide the best service and experience to millions of our guests, both on the ground and in the air are now back. This award is dedicated to Allstars and all 800 million guests and counting who have voted for AirAsia time and time again, for being a part of its incredible journey," he said.

Meanwhile, Skytrax chief executive officer Edward Plaisted said AirAsia is a survey passenger favourite and have delivered a remarkable degree of consistency every year since the World's Best Low-Cost Airline category was introduced to the awards programme in 2010.

"The recognition from customers should be a great source of pride for the airline management and staff in what has been a difficult period as travel returns after the Covid pandemic," he said, describing the award as an exceptional recognition when a Malaysian brand won the 'World Best' on 14 occasions.

Dubbed the "Oscars of the Aviation Industry", the Skytrax is the global benchmark of airline excellence with over 20.23 million customer surveys completed worldwide between September last year and March this year, a period when AirAsia had steadily increased its network back to over 130 destinations, by more than 100 nationalities.

Projek Lambaian Bayu produk pelancongan baharu Kuala Terengganu

Sarawak takes ownership of MASwings

Sarawak aims to take over MASwings in order to set up its own boutique airline and improve air connectivity

Sarawak has agreed in principle to take over MASwings, a subsidiary of Malaysia Airlines, as a means of setting up its own boutique airline and improving air connectivity with Sarawak.

The takeover was proposed by the federal government, stated Sarawak premier Abang Johari Openg, who added that negotiations are currently ongoing.

Sarawak plans to use local state-owned charter operator Hornbill Skyways (Kuching) to operate the new airline’s fleet of turboprop aircraft to connect Sarawak with Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangkok and several airports in Indonesia.

Earlier in April, Malaysia’s prime minister Anwar Ibrahim had agreed to the Sarawak state government’s request to form a boutique airline to fly to destinations beyond Borneo.

However, deputy transport minister Hasbi Habibollah revealed in Parliament on June 12 that Sarawak’s application in early April was incomplete and that the Ministry of Transport, through the Malaysian Aviation Commission ,will examine and consider the proposal after a completed application is submitted to the federal government for consideration.

Marketing In Asia reported that a decision on the possible rebranding of MASwings after the takeover remains uncertain – more details will be provided once the takeover procedure concludes.

Hard Rock Cafe Ipoh dibuka Disember
